Old Rectory, Lincolnshire

Revived from a state of advanced dereliction, the Old Rectory is a family home located in the Lincolnshire village of East Barkwith. Purchased in 2021 by NHS workers Lettie Tyrwhitt & Jervoise Andreyev, the two medics swiftly set about an operation to patch up the ailing rectory with the assistance of Brisco Loran.

Planning consent was obtained by the Spring of 2022, permitting the start of building works that covered a retrofit of the gabled 1860s-built house, the reworking of a flat-roofed 1960s block, and the construction of a kitchen hall across the stony footprint of a lost 17th century wing. At the heart of the project, and consistent with the work lives of its initiators, is an attitude of care that celebrates the capacities of repair, reuse, and renewal over the blinkered fix of demolition.

With the works complete, Lettie & Jervoise moved into the house in 2023, successful in their restoration of the house as a partner of the neighbouring 12th century church that their young children now watch from the kitchen sink – a fresh century of life to extend a near four-hundred-year relationship.
